BASKETBALL

Jack Mayo and Joe Hammond —

It has been another massive year for St Thomas Basketball.

This year has been a year of growth and development. We welcomed Joe Hammond on as our First V Head Coach and we had myself join the whanau as head of basketball. 2020 had Basketball being one of the most participated in sports in the college, this year we had 16 different teams take the court each week, From Year7/8s up to our First V.

There have been so many major success stories, the Year 8 gold boys taking out the Pioneer A grade championship, the year 9 boys coming 3rd in canterbury div 1 competition, two year 13 Friday night teams taking out their divisions, with one of them going undefeated, the under 17s winning their Saturday competition and the First V coming 3rd in a recent South Island tournament just to name a few.

For our First V this year was a key year for learning and trying out new things, as a very young team the boys pulled off some massive results but unfortunately just missed out on the playoffs. Next year most of the squad will be returning, so we are all looking forward to seeing how the boys go.

It has been a huge blessing to be part of the St Thomas basketball family, I would like to thank the school for everything they are doing for the sport and their belief behind our basketball program, next year is going to be a massive one for the boys and I am beyond excited to work alongside our players and coaches to keep basketball a driving force within the college.
