RIMA - A sweet group

2016 has been a great year for RIMA. Not only have there been many Kahoot and X-Box matches, but we have also had shared lunches, pizza runs, and a whole lot more. Every student of RIMA provides something unique that as a whole puts us above the rest, and here's why. (Not biased at all...)

One major event for RIMA was Special Character Week, a highlight for Gianni. He also sold tropical smoothies at the Year 7 market, so don’t be surprised to see Gianni selling up a storm in the coming years.

Phelix also helped out with the Year 7 market, but also excelled in cricket making the Canterbury Country team. He’s quite the all-rounder.

Another all-rounder of RIMA is Hamish, who has loved learning Photoshop this year, but also scored 16 goals at Hornby Football Club, which is an awesome feat.

Sam and Alex both have had better grades than last year in 2016, a major achievement. Sam also played new sports such as volleyball, while Alex made new friends and learnt about St Thomas’ as a new student to the college.

Zach went to Queenstown on the Under 12 rugby trip, where the team came fourth. He also played Metro rugby in the Under 12 rep team. Connor played in his Under 14 team, an amazing halfback. Montel played for Canterbury Reds and the STC Under 14 team as well; after the team won the championship he is eager to play next year.

And it doesn’t stop with rugby either. Ezra enjoyed basketball this year, and despite being prevented from playing the whole season, is eager to play full-time basketball in 2017.

Sherwin also achieved Level 2 Design and Level 1 which is incredible, while Harrison loved his BICTO trades course which has given him experience as he works towards an apprenticeship in the field.

The highlights of 2016 for Elliot were witnessing the last Saint Thomas Variety Concert and being a part of the one and only 3rd XI.

Tom's highlights were the little Rice house mad dogs, the swimming sports, athletics day. Belting out house chants and leading the house are moments of 2016 that he will never forget.

Thank you to Ms Guerin and Mrs Gaffaney for their amazing support not just in 2016 but throughout the years. Your knowledge, guidance, and kindness (and sarcasm) is unmatched. RIMA has and always will be the best form class; it’s a word, a Maori number, it’s in Rice, what more?

Ben O’Connell

Ben has had a highly successful year in the cultural life of the College with a starring role in “Grease”, Bishop Lyons’ Shield, Debating and Theatresports. He also found the time to lead the school in its academic endeavours and also to guide RIMA in all its endeavours.
