3 v 3 National Basketball Tournament

Brad Milne —

In March, 21 boys travelled to Tauranga to compete in the National Secondary School 3 v. 3 Basketball tournament. We took up 4 teams of 5 players, plus Brad Clive as a nominated referee. The competition was tough which was perfect and the games were close. Each team had some fantastic wins, and wins even coming in the last second of games, but on the flip side some results also fell the other way in similar circumstances. This tournament saw our boys compete against many of the big basketball schools in the country, opportunities that, more than likely, most will not have the chance again in regular basketball. It was pretty special for our boys to show their skills up against some of the best in the country.

The trip saw the boys stay together in a Marae which enhanced the comradery these men have for each other, as well as giving most of the boys their first opportunity to stay on a Marae and further understand the protocols and stories associated with local iwi. A huge thanks must go to Ang Hughes and Jasmine Adam for their help, planning, organising and, most importantly, cooking for the trip. Without their time given, the boys would not have had the experience that they had.

Final results;

Junior A 11th

Junior B 18th

Senior A 27th

Senior B 31st
