STC and the Manu Korero Regionals

Manu Korero

We had an excellent showing at Regional Manu Korero with four speakers in Senior Maori – Kalani Halliday – who came sixth in that category and he took this on with limited time and really rose to the occasion. Senior English – Te Rakitaunuku Tau – who placed second and who continues to improve every time he speaks. He has been a solid performer for St Thomas. Junior Maori – Tanirau Inia – who showed great courage to represent his kura at his first Manu Korero and also Junior English – Kole Harmer – who did a great job for his first year competing. He placed fourth and is one to watch for the future. The boys performed well at Regionals and put in a lot of hard work in preparation for such a young and upcoming group. We had great numbers with 38 present at Manu Korero.

We have been lucky enough to have a new tutor and part time staff member Matua Thoms. He has been a great addition to our kura and he brings a wealth of knowledge and skills. We had a great time away in Kaikoura and the boys who went away were a credit to their respective whanau. They were very well behaved and they worked hard with Matua Matiu and Matua Tamahau. I have been very proud on the boys with the many events we have been apart of from the passing of Bishop Barry to the welcoming of our brothers from Oceania. It doesn’t matter where we go we are always given nothing but praise for the way the boys conduct themselves. We continue to build for 2017 and look forward to lifting our numbers and our standard of performance for the upcoming events.
