RIAS - 2022

Andrew Strachan —

It was a fresh start for the boys of RIAS, as last year we said goodbye to Mr. Campbell and RIKC as he went to a new adventure and Christs College. The new dawn of RIAS 2022 had begun.

RIAS is different in many ways to the other mentor classes across the school. We only have two seniors, only one year 13 Carter and one year 11 student Henry. So, our strength and numbers come from the younger years in the school, which in a couple of years will have us in a very strong position.

RIAS has had a good year both as a group and individually, the class is full of varied and unique lads who have excelled in many things. We have champion swimmers, we have budding scientists, we have aspiring basketball stars and referees. We also have rugby players, mountain bikers, rugby league players so a class full of many talents.

There have been many highlights from the year. We took a survey and some of the lad’s highlights included sports tournaments, school exchanges, the house contests, Evolocity and many other school based and extracurricular activities.

Overall, it has been a good year for RIAS, we have almost had a full year of class, besides a few bouts of covid and some home isolating. We have not missed out too much this year on the things that make school and St Thomas great. I have really enjoyed being the RIAS mentor this year and getting the know the students. I look forward to the future and seeing our young class move forward, becoming seniors and helping them along whatever path they choose to take in the future!
