NZSSRL Championships

Andrew Auimatangi —

The STC 1st XIII finish in 7th place at the NZSSRL Championships with a 20-12 win over Manukura.

A massive congratulations to Captain Caius Fa’atili who was named in the tournament team after his outstanding performances leading from the front all week.

The future of rugby league at the college looks bright with many boys returning over the next few years and some exciting talent in our junior ranks.

A massive thank you to all the families, sponsors, teachers and supporters who have helped make this trip possible. A special mention to David McMeeken (NZRL), Tusa Lafaele and Tania Harris who have been a massive help as our Auckland based contacts and support team, you guys are awesome!

Update - Round 1

An impressive performance from the 1st XIII in their first game of the NZSSRL Championships. Unfortunately the Saints went down 24-18 to Auckland Secondary Schools Runners Up, Mt Albert Grammar. The half time score was 12-6 to STC but a few fundamental errors and defensive lapses were costly and let the Lions back into the game. A courageous effort and the MANAWA on display was immense from STC. Special mention to winger Levani Rova who scored a hat trick on debut! Next opponent: James Cook High School (Manurewa)

Update - Round 2

After a few costly errors the Saints found themselves down 16-0 in the first half against James Cook High School. With minutes to go until the break, Caius Fa’atili powered his way across the line to score the only try for STC and successfully converted.

The second half started well with Levani Rova adding two more tries to his already impressive strike rate. The Saints came home strong to claim the win going into an important matchup with Westlake. Final score: STC 40 - James Cook 20.

Round 3 update:

STC 1st XIII beat Westlake Boys 36-16. The Saints then moved into the 5th-8th playoff rounds at the NZSSRL Championships.

STC 1st XIII Day 4 Update

The Saints faced a powerful Manurewa pack today and struggled to contain their go forward. STC fought hard to get within 2 points in the dying minutes but some costly errors let the opposition finish the game with a try. Final score: Manurewa 24 - STC 18
