ART - Level TWO Portfolios 2016

Brendan Biggs —

2016 has seen the St Thomas Art Department continue its approach of multi level and discipline classes that operate under the philosophy of “Every student has the right to pass.” Thankfully they do.

Level Two Art

Level 2 practical Art disciplines number five, which are Design, Photography, Printmaking, Painting and Sculpture. In 2016 St Thomas’s offerred all these options. The pass rate across all five disciplines was 100%.

The largest Art discipline was Design at 23 learners, then Photography at 19, Printmaking at 13, Sculpture at 3 and Painting at 1. Many students did two Art disciplines and gained 20 credits in each discipline. Many of our Level 2 learners were Year 11 students who had already gained NCEA level one in Year 10. Design in particular saw only one or two Achieved grades with the bulk of the rest gaining subject endorsement at Merit and Excellence. Again I find that I am so proud of the hard work and effort our boys have done to achieve so well at NCEA Art.

Of the boys that have done well this year special mention must be given to a Year 11 student Dominic Anisy who completed two Art courses Design and Photography and gained Excellence in both. Again he was not alone in excellence, he is joined by Omri Abela, Sebastian Baird-Pradella, Izaac Beever, Earl Baua, Sherwin Bautista, Isaac Bradbrook, Brad Clive, John Esibal, Reece Merret, Caleb Raurahu, Thomas Bell, Jacob Grosvenor, Joseph Spijkerman.
