Outdoor Education Day - tramping trip to Mount Thomas

Chris Leader —

A one day tramping trip to Mount Thomas in North Canterbury.

Tramping trip to Mount Thomas

The trip was a part of the classes assessment on day tramps. The first part of this assessment involves planning and organising a day tramp suitable for the class of year 12 students. The second involved completing the day tramp and completing several practical tasks during the tramp such as walking different tracks, finding flat terrain, identifying risks and hazards and pointing out key meeting spots.

It was a tough climb to the top of the summit where there were spectacular views of the Canterbury plains and the start of Arthur’ s Pass.  After a quick lunch at the summit, the group set off for the much easier downhill track back to the school vans and a long journey back to St Thomas. Thanks to Mr Burton for all his knowledge and expertise during the trip.
