Cricket Year 9

Cricket Year 9

The year 9 STC team struggled for form in this year’s competition. Being the first STC year nine team to play in the A grade made it a challenging season for all players. In the first half of the season we played 45 overs per innings. We started our off with a bang winning our third game by 124 runs. We batted first scoring 292/4(Cormack Tarrant 91, Jack Taylor 80). We then bowled them out for 168(Luke Shallcrass 5/14 of 4). This was sadly our only win for the season. However, for the second half of the season we played two innings games, playing over two consecutive Saturdays. Having the opportunities to bat and bowl for a long length of time led to many great achievements. Connor Hotton (5/66 of 11) and Will Andrews(5/36 of 11) both picked up 5 wicket bags with Fraser Buckley scoring 98 against St Bedes on his way to a streak of 3 half century’s in a row, as well as five for the season. We narrowly missed getting our second win AT home Against St Bedes. It came down to their last batsmen needing 24 runs with no wickets in hand, sadly we did not manage to pick up this final wicket. In our last game for the season we challenged Boys high black. They scored 286(Connor Hotten 5/66) in the first innings we were then rolled for 96. Boys enforced the follow on and we scored 200 runs (Fraser Buckley 70). This forced them to bat again in order to get our runs.

Connor Hotten picked up the most wickets for the season with 14. Fraser Buckley took out the Batting with 590 runs for the season. In all it was very much a learning season. But we all enjoyed it and learnt some valuable lessons.
