Canterbury Youth Awards 2016
St Thomas Youth Custody Index was the Runner Up for the ASB Advocate for Inclusion and Diversity Award (2016).
Joseph Devine (Year 13) – Lead Student – National Youth Custody Index (2016) – represented his team to become runner up for the ASB Advocate for Inclusion and Diversity Award (2016) in the Canterbury Youth Awards held at the UC Event Centre. The team consists of Joseph Devine, Nuku Tau, Xavier Ngaata and Te Aotahi Rice-Edwards.
Students were applauded and recognised for their work and involvement in matters pertaining to youth. Joseph is part of the "Youth Custody Index" - which provides a holistic look at youth in custody and seeks a chance to provide a voice for the marginalized youth in New Zealand's prisons.
He was presented with green stone at a function that was the first youth awards held by Youth Voice Canterbury established after the earthquakes. This Youth Voice aims to connect the youth, who are making a difference in our community, with leaders of the Canterbury Region.
