Joyce House Mentor for 2023

Shannon Hurley —

It has been an absolute honour stepping into the role of Joyce House Mentor for 2023. I have learnt so much this year and thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the boys and working with students and staff in a pastoral capacity.

Our boys have exceled in many areas of school life: In the classroom, on the sports field and on stage. Most importantly, they have impressed me with their positive attitudes, exemplary manners and hard work ethics. A special mention goes to Beau Broomhall, for being awarded the prize of Best Kaia in our house haka competition, which was part of our Special Character week. Ka pai, boys!

During our weekly house meetings, we often award one of our students with the title of Joyce Man of the Week. The beautiful trophies that you see in the pictures below were hand-crafted by the wonderful Mr Shane Reddy, one of our mentor teachers. Below are a handful of the students who were awarded the title this year.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Joyce mentor teachers for their hard mahi and manaakitanga with the boys this year. Thank you to Katie Stanton for her support as Head of Pastoral, and to the students for always greeting me with a smile and a hello. I look forward to the challenges and rewards of 2024.

Arohanui, Shannon Hurley.
