Senior Debating

Seniors debating ...

Senior Debating Writeup

2016 has been an incredible year for every St Thomas' senior debater. At the end of the day all the boys stepped up and gave it 110% in each and every debate. Some highlights include the thrashing of St Bede's in the regional competition, and the lad's participation in the Bishop Lyons Shield competition, where Hamish Brodie was awarded the St Bede's Old Boys Association Cup for Overall Top Speaker. "Easy win. My mental physique is just genetically greater than my competitors. Blue is true just like our team's debating prowess."

Pawel Gall, when asked about his most memorable moment, had this to say, "Well, I'd have to say that the fact you don't have to know a thing about the topics is a big plus. I could just speak on and on making up facts and random rubbish just to make my argument sound better." Eddie Morgan, when asked the same question, said the following, "Hmm, probably being able to experience something I'd never done before and for our inexperienced team to do pretty well at the regionals."

Oscar Sergel-Stringer's 2016 highlight, among many other debaters, was smashing Bede's. The year was filled with ups and downs, but in the end the lads all overcame adversity, sending a message to the rival debating team in their victory.

Overall, at the end of the day, debating is something all the boys encourage others to do. "Join the debating club if you want to be a master debater," exclaimed one member, who would like to remain anonymous. Tim Marshall summed it up nicely in saying this, "Uhhh so yeah the boys are good, great and ah we had a solid season last year and had a few lads make rep debating squads and we train hard and yeah go hard, everyone should definitely give it a go, get amongst it ay."
