Dual-Enrollment courses in 2020

Brendan Biggs —

Construction? Automotive? Farming? Electrical? Hospitality?

Firstly, this is for current year 11 and 12 students.

At present I have been discussing 2020 Dual-enrollment courses with the student body - often these details are NOT discussed at home with those who are the important ones! At this stage I am engaging with student interest and later in the term I will be sending home forms to be filled in by those interested and the family. I am sure there are further questions and I am more than happy to meet with you and your son to discuss how this may work and what impact it can have on school and NCEA. In many cases these courses will offer them the practical schooling they are looking for and ensure a strong pathway into the trade or area of interest that they are looking at.

If you are keen on them following this pathway please contact me.

The Course: This would mean that they would be here at school Mon-Wed completing a number of subjects and a home-room class with other boys on the same year 12 type courses. The Thursday and Friday would be at the chosen course. This course would NOT incur any further costs to you other than travel costs to the course.

The Courses:

ARA and SIT - mostly all two day coursesLevel 2 Intro to Construction ... leads to Level 3 CarpentryLevel 2 Intro to Automotive ... leads to full-time Automotive or a Level 3 course at Avon City FordLevel 2 Hospitality ... leads to a Level 3 Hospitality or Cookery course at ARALevel 2 Intro to ElectricalLevel 2 Intro to Sustainability and Outdoor Education (One Day) ... leads to a level 3 course as well.

National Trade Academy - McLeans Island - two day courses.

Level 2 Certificate in Primary Industries - Agriculture ... leads to level three options in pastoral and livestock productionOther courses in Animal Care, Horticulture and Equine as well.

Techtorium - two day

If you would like to discuss these options further get your son to see me at school or phone/e-mail me. Cheers Brendan Biggs
