Pen Portraits

Max Smail:

Max has become a familiar face in the squad over the past year with game turning innings maturing into a determined top - middle order batsmen, he can also make trainings a nightmare for batsmen with his slick off spin.

Fraser Buckley:

Fraser has been a member of the 1st XI for a number of years now and has taken his new role as a striking batsmen at the top of the order with confidence. A player that sends half the bowlers out of the nets at training, it’s no wonder why he was the leading run scorer throughout the year.

Will Andrews:

Will has developed into a weapon with bat and ball which has had other teams grasping for air. A genuine leader, Will has shown his knowledge of the game throughout the season making him a well-rounded player who can bounce any batsmen into next week.

Kieran Charlton:

The youngest of the Charlton duo, Kieran has developed into the go to spinner when a breakthrough is needed. On top of his spin skills he isn’t afraid to throw himself around the field, apparently he plays AFL or something.

Nick Price:

One of the youngest members of the 1st XI squad, Nick has shown real determination with the bat knocking up a few game changing contributions in the middle order.

Tane Knowler:

Tane was part of the 1st XI for a couple of years becoming the teams strike swing bowler with the fresh cherry. Along with his impressive bowling history, Tane has shown determination with the bat down the order not afraid to take on the attack.

Conor Fitzgerald:

Conor has developed himself into a strong leader of the 1st XI taking the reigns in very trying circumstances in Year 12 and capping off his reign with back to back division wins. Conor finishes his career in the baggy after 4 years with a barrel of runs and wickets but most importantly, a broken elbow and broken toe.

Lachlan Messervy-Siohane:

Lachie was a valuable member of the 1st XI this year as a natural out swinging opening bowler. He provided many early wickets for the team to capitalise on leading us to keeping the opposition from scoring a high number of runs. Lachie has an elegant action that has proven successful for the school. Earlier this year Lachie took an astonishing 8 wickets for only 1 run. Suffering an injury early in the second half of the season, Lachie played limited games. However, we look forward to seeing his potential in full flight at the start of next season.

Connor Hotton:

Connor was vital to the team’s success this year. He was high on the list of both top run scorers and top wicket takers. In the middle order, Connor was valuable with his natural run scoring abilities and his elegant technique made it even nicer to watch. Although only in Year 11, Connor’s experience in representative teams proved vital as often he would come up with a much needed breakthrough in the field to get the team motivated. Connor’s safe pair of hands added to his well-rounded craft pulling off some absolute screamers in the field this season.

Kole Harmer:

Kole’s team mindset was essential this year for the team’s success. On and off the field, Kole had remarkable interest in others success and ensured the rest of the team were playing at their best abilities. On the field, Kole was a constant noise that the opposition simply couldn’t get rid of and often caused wickets with his enthusiasm in the field. Batting in the middle order, Kole showed great fight and determination to build an innings when the team was in trouble. The determination Kole had often meant he became very difficult to dismiss. This demonstration of mental strength motivated the rest of the team to do the same.

Josh Charlton:

Opening the bowling, Josh frequently managed to put fear in the oppositions opening batsman and managed to continuously get early wickets for the team. Josh was an extremely important part of puzzle that made up this years’ team. He was a fierce opening bowler who ran in with intent and hit a hard length. His extraordinary athleticism also meant that he was an exceptional fielder and pulled through with many great pieces of fielding leading to run outs and catches. As a middle to lower order batsman, Josh had the ability to tear a team apart with his positive intent with the bat. He often won us games putting on the finishing touches to the team’s innings.

Tyler Bruce:

Tyler is a promising young player who showed great heart this year for the team. Giving it absolutely everything in the field motivated other teammates to do the same. As a very talented young batsman, Tyler built vital innings to the team’s success and often stepped up when the team was in trouble. His off-spin bowling proves to be a promising factor for the team’s success in years to come.

Harry Mayo:

Harry was a Year 13 member of this year’s team. He added much enthusiasm to the team and made sure we were training and playing with excitement and eagerness. Harry was surprising with his constant energy in the field that often lifted the team’s morale when we were battling through a tough period. Harry loved his precious cover fielding position and was determined to dive an any direction to make sure his teammates knew he was giving the team his everything and that they should be doing he same. Harry moved up the order earlier in the season and opened the batting for the remainder of the season. His technique proved to be successful as he was able to get the shine off the ball and build a nice innings ticking over the scoreboard at a good rate. Harry’s energy was also displayed in his bowling. Harry ran in hard and was often able to put fear in the opposition and breakthrough with vital wickets that won us games. His enthusiasm towards the team’s achievements was something that has changed the team’s general mindset in season to come and we thank him for this.
