McClintock House report 2021

Much like the Warriors, next year will be our year!!!

McClintock House report 2021

2021 was a much-improved year for the mighty green machine, McClintock house. We started the year on the back of some success at the end of last year with a new and enthusiastic student leadership team this year. At the start of this year we had what seemed like hundreds of year 12 and 13’s putting their hands up to support Max and the other leaders in restoring McClintock to its rightful place atop of the house leaderboard.

The Year 13 leaders had no time to waste, they hit the ground running and were into it right away with the swimming and Athletics sports. These are a great day out and a huge part of school life at St Thomas. It is quite a sight to see Halswell pool and Nga Punawai sports hub packed with the green, yellow, black and red of the houses. Every year these events seem to be getting better and better, there are more boys giving it a go chanting and showing true house spirit.

At the swimming sports we gave everything a go, we tried our hardest and showed true house spirit. Sadly, it wasn’t enough to stop Marlow from gaining their 12th successive title at the pool. On a brighter note for McClintock though we did produce some great chants and had Year 8 student Ben Morrison as one of the champions on the day!

We were a lot more confident at the athletics champs, we knew we had the potential, the athletes and the house spirit. Once again it was not quite enough, but we did have two champions this time with Waisea Henry in year 10 and Josh Lennon in year 13 our standouts.

As the year went on our leaders within the house really stood up, with many taking the lead with things like Shave for a Cure, special character week organization and many others. Special Character is the main house activity for the year and this year was no different. The week was full of many activities and our leaders really outdid themselves. This week was a huge success, we collected and donated 1275 items clothing items to Saint Vincent de Paul in their Winter Woolies Drive. Harvey Gordon took the lead here and showed such compassion and leadership to make this all possible. We had our activities day which had things like, egg and spoon races, football mini-golf games, dodgeball and sport skills competitions. We finished the week strong by taking out the singing contest and going close in the Haka Contest.

It is all these many events which keep the house competition going, but it is the day-to-day things, the practices and the things that go on behind the scenes from the boys which make these all possible and it is great to see these boys develop and grow into true servant leaders as the year goes on. A huge thanks must go to those that have led, helped and supported Max, Wilson, Harvey, Rourke, Letone and the boys this year. There is already many year 12’s putting up their hands and wanting to move the house forward onwards to success. The future is bright, and the foundations are solid thanks to the efforts of many this year.

Much like the Warriors, next year will be our year!!!
