STC - Junior Rugby League 2015
STC Junior Rugby League 9’s Success
On Friday the 27th of February our junior rugby league team completed the Canterbury Rugby League ‘double’ for St Thomas of Canterbury College by winning the inaugural Canterbury Secondary Schools Rugby League Nines tournament, held at Wainoni Park. Inspired by the success of the senior team who won their respective tournament a week earlier, the junior team went through the tournament unbeaten winning all five games, displaying great attacking skills and punishing defence.
The final was played against Papanui High School and was an exciting game with some scintillating tries scored by Elisara Vaifale and Taani Taufa. Taani was a standout player for the senior team also and was named in the tournament team at both the senior and junior levels, an extraordinary achievement by a year 10 student. To cap off a successful fortnight of football, Taani was named player of the tournament and was joined in the tournament team by Elisara Vaifale, Sulimoni Samasoni and Zinzaan Martin.
A great start to our rugby league season at the college and we look forward to what season 2015 holds for all of our rugby league teams.
