Year 12 Physics - Part Two!

Andrew Jones —

The Level 2 Physics boys have been busy over the last two weeks. Last week they had a visit from the staff at Rutherford’s Den (see newsletter article) and investigated New Zealand favourite scientist, Ernest Rutherford, and his contribution to the world's understanding of atoms and radioactivity.

This week we went to University of Canterbury. As well as investigating radioactivity, the boys also got to look at liquid nitrogen, rotational motion and investigate the effects of pressure with a bed of nails.

Proof, should you ever need it, that Physics at St Thomas’ is not BORING!!

Thanks to Cliff Franklin and Graham Plank from the University Physics Department, and Ms Kristy Caldwell, our new student science teacher, for their help and assistance in making the boys experience really fulfilling and engaging.

Now for the assessment tasks....urgh!!!
