Junior History Trip 2025
Roaming for Roman Remnants
Last Friday, the Year 9 History class travelled in to the centre of Christchurch City to engage with the legacy of the Roman Empire. The boys got the opportunity to handle archaeological objects over 2,000 years old at the Teece Museum of Classical Antiquities as well as visit some of our cities most well known sites, all of which have been influenced by the culture of the Ancient Romans. From the impressive architectural features of the Old Government Building, to the Ionic-inspired columns of the McDougall Art Gallery, Rome is present all across our garden city. In the statues of our city's founders, to our very own "triumphal" arch, Rome endures in many facets of our physical surroundings. The boys, of course, enjoyed our lunch break at the Riverside Market but no doubt left with a better appreciation for our city and the sites which make up its character. A big thank you to Mr. Dowling and Mr. Lafdal who assisted on the trip and added their own knowledge to the tour.
