Year 9 STEM

Hamish Barclay —

Kia ora parents and caregivers.

Year 9 STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) has started with a lot of momentum in 2019. Students have been busy getting used to the structures, teachers and new classes in the first few weeks.

This term the students are focused on Statistics and Ecosystems. Students have several statistical enquiries they are completing as part of their learning such as Travel to School, Sports and The Great Year 9 Census.

For each enquiry students need to follow the math enquiry cycle (above) and are learning to use Excel to sort and display various data.

As the term progresses students will be using their skills to undertake a science inquiry on a chosen ecosystem.

In 2019 the students spilt the Math curriculum between Numeracy (Number and Algebra), and STEM (Statistics, Measurement and Geometry). If you would like to discuss anything with your son’s teacher feel free to contact us via email.
