Welcome Aboard, Mark!

Steve Hart —

I’m sure all of you are familiar with the name Mark Hammett, known for his extensive career in rugby and coaching – but also as an STC Old Boy attending the College from 1984-1989.

In 2021, we warmly welcome Mark back to STC, in the newly developed role of Director of High Performance and Wellbeing. Mark brings with him years of experience in life coaching, leadership, and conflict resolution, to name but a few.

Mark comes to us with great enthusiasm for his new role, and has hit the ground running, getting to know both staff and students, as well as our school community.

Mark has a great pride and passion for STC, and remembers his time at the College fondly. The size of the school stands out to Mark, with a smaller role you never felt like a number, everyone had a name, parents all knew each other, and all this created a great feeling of belonging.

Akli Lafdal was a memorable teacher at STC for many years, and Mark, and I’m sure, many students, credit him for the discipline, work ethic and resilience he installed in his students.

Mark also remembers how fiercely proud the coaches were after rugby games, regardless of whether the team had won or not.

What has stood out to Mark, on his return to STC, is that the connected feeling and the fact that everyone is cared for still exists. It's a very special characteristic of STC...our students feel like they belong, and that has a massive impact on their learning, thinking and resilience. And, of course, it's a huge privilege to be a part of....something we are all very grateful for!
