Shave for a cure

Brendan Biggs —

This year the student leadership team decided that they wanted to leave a legacy within the school and make a change within the community. They decided that doing a large ‘Shave for a Cure’ project would target both of these goals.

This year the student leadership team decided that they wanted to leave a legacy within the school and make a change within the community. They decided that doing a large ‘Shave for a Cure’ project would target both of these goals.

After a bit of organizing and recruiting they ended up with a team of 55 keen students and teachers all looking forward to baring skin for leukemia and blood cancer. As soon as the fundraising page was up and running, Luke Payne was quickly in the lead by hundreds of dollars but by end he was over-taken by year 9 student Jake Charlton who fundraised over $1000.00. This gave Jake a spot on the New Zealand individual leader board.

The day after the big shave, STC is a scary looking school. As a team they are just shy of raising $10,000.00 with donations still coming in. STC is now placed 3rd out of around 60 schools in New Zealand, making this project very successful in the student leadership team’s mission to create change.
