Willows Cricket - Our First X1 Win!

Paul McCarthy —

The Willows players reluctantly handed over the trophy.

On Wednesday our First X1 cricket team successfully won back the Brother Bill Dowling Trophy from a talented Willows' X1. It is the third time in the College's history that they have claimed the coveted prize.

The match began with STC winning the toss and electing to field first. The bowlers all toiled hard against some very experienced and skillful batsmen with Harry Mayo, Tane Knowler, and Kieran Charlton being the pick of the bowlers. The Willows posted 202 and STC felt that this was a very good effort, led largely by committed bowling and supported well by a spirited fielding performance.

In reply STC notched the winning runs 8 wickets down in the 38th over, with Will Andrews keeping a cool head and steering the team to victory. Connor Fitzgerald was the pick of the batsman with a patient knock of 54. Other contributions came from Ben Rapson (56 retired), and Lachie Stove who scored a breezy 20 before being caught in the deep.

All in all an excellent day for our young team who continue to go from strength to strength with their skills, mindset, and positive approach to the game.
