Rugby - Under 13 - Coaches' Report

Brendan Biggs —

U13 Rugby Report

After a mixed bag of grading games the U13 STC rugby team were put into section 3 of the Christchurch Metro Competition. The boys were obviously disappointed in this result as they had ultimately aimed for a season in section two. However, with several new players the team marched on where they put in some outstanding efforts and made some memorable performances. Some of these most memorable performances included the 36-point comeback over Sydenham or the thrashing of HSOB on the number one field.

It was a fiercely competitive section with every team beating each other once. Eventually for our boys we bowed out in the semi-final to Sydenham – who eventually ran out winners. Some key players for the team included backs Nick Price at fullback and first five along with Israel Halliday-Witana and Tai Ierome in the centres. In the forwards Kevin Mc Kie was a "rock" up front in the scrums and nothing could go past captain Mykah Lumb at number 8.

The biggest positive from the under 13 team this year was the way the boys came together. The whole team was made up of year 8 and year 9 students who hardly knew each other coming from different teams and different clubs and credit must be given to them in their performance both on and off the field. If the group sticks together the team will be a strong force down the track. A huge thank you must be said to Greg and Cheryl Price for their management of the team from week to week and to Pete and Julie Mc McCorkindale for the continuing support and contribution to the team. Without you people the team would simply not have survived.

Thank You - Chris Leader and Daniel Smith
