U15 Secondary Schools Sevens Tournament

Dean Smith —

On Tuesday morning, a group of young men traveled down to Timaru for a sevens tournament. Day one was a very challenging day against some strong teams in extremely hot conditions. First game we played a strong Nelson College. Leading at half time 10-12, managed to have no ball in the second half and lost 39-12. Second game was against Roncali College. We had all the ball and put on a dominant performance to win 35-12. Game 3 was a must win for us, in order to finish second in our pool. We played some magical footy but unfortunately went down 28-21 to Ashburton College. This meant we finished 3 in our pool.

Day 2: Our first game we played a second Nelson College team and won 22-10. Second game was against St Andrews and we won 17-12. Overall we won three and lost two, finishing 5th overall. Not a bad effort considering limited preparation. Great to see a new set of faces begin to gel together. It did identify a lot of strengths and some areas to work on. Thanks to the parents who popped down to support and thanks to Mr O'Brien and Mr Leader. Also, a big thank you to the 12 young men who represented the school extremely well. I was most impressed with the attitude and presentation of the young men on and off the field.
