A wonderful celebration of STC sporting achievements was held for the 2019 STC Sports Awards at the Hornby Working Men’s Club. Over 300 guests attended to support and congratulate our athletes for their efforts in making representative programmes throughout the year. The crowd were entertained by our Year 8 and Senior band as well as the ‘Barbarians at the Bar’, Johnny Leo’o and Corey Flynn. 

 Many thanks to our entertainment and to everyone involved in the running of the night including the Sports Co-ordinators Daniel Kahura, Nev Brooker and Alex Coulthard and the tech crew of Cameron Anisy and Cormac Gallagher. Thank you also to Robbie Lange, our MC, and to Ngaire Lester, Lynley Gibson, Jackie Redmond and Rachael Fowler who all offered their assistance in our preparations for the evening.

The following is a list of the major award winners for 2019:

A special mention to our CAIMS games athletes who competed this week. Our badminton teams finished 2nd (Alex Walls, Finn Sullivan-Roberts, Gabe Kennedy) and 3rd (Jesse Mullally, Connor Messervy, Austin Fowler) while our basketball squad finished 1st in the ‘B’ Grade competition.

Finally, congratulations must go to Harrison Lester who competed at the 2019 Judo NZ National Championships and won silver in both the Senior Boys and Cadet Men U55kg. Well done Harrison!
