MCDH - 2023
David Hooper - November 15, 2023
In 2023, we welcomed Jimmy, Henry, Bryn, Cooper and Nico into MCDH. In term 1, we made the most of our new space in S6 and decorated our noticeboard with the things that reflect our passions and interests. Mentoring has been an awesome opportunity for us to improve on our ideas for prayer and circle time discussions – it is always such a highlight to hear about what’s going on in everyone’s St Thomas journey. We love how diverse our mentor class is, with many unique and shared passions and skills, as well as an undeniable sense of brotherhood and belonging.
Mentoring has been a great space for developing leadership skills and confidence for many of our young men, including our year 12’s who have stepped up countless times to help lead the sessions – Nico who has been a great supporter of Matua Ru and McClintock house. It has been such a pleasure to support all of these young men on their academic journeys, as well as celebrate the many successes on the sports field, in the classroom and beyond.
A few highlights from our MCDH brothers:
- Special Character Week and the teacher’s singing (Seth and Yuan)
- Raising money for charity with his lanyard business (Ethan)
- Hanging out with mates and making new ones (Clemente)
- Winning the Haka competition (Benji)
- Representing STC in the 1st XI at Nationals (Ben, Josh and Te Wharekauri)
Congratulations to Nico, Te Wharekauri, Josh, Joel and Ethan who enter Y13 in 2024 – we have been so lucky to have you in MCDH these past few years and cannot wait to hear about the great things you will achieve.
I cannot wait to see Clemente, Jack and Ben thrive as our Year 12 leaders in 2024 – your energy and humour bring so much joy to our mentor class so we are in for an awesome year no doubt.
Mr. Hooper
