Workday 2017 is nearly here!
Workday 2017 is to take place on Tuesday the 28th February this year.
Workday is a day where students either go out into the workforce or work around home for a day, bringing the proceeds back to school. The money is then used by the School Council for projects of student interest within the College.
In past years the Council has purchase: drinking fountains, fencing for bike security, a giant chess set, an art work for the chapel, quality speakers for productions, eftpos facilities at the tuck shop and laptops linked to student success.
In the last few years we have put money into seating and outdoor furniture, shade areas, grassed areas, school vans and an outdoor stage. As well as all these purchases the Council has donated in excess of $3,000.00 with extra fundraising giving to different charities.
Your son will be expected to work for five hours. This is to simulate a full school day.
There will be no work provided at school as all staff will be off-site at a teacher only day professional development experience. Students are encouraged to be creative in finding jobs and perhaps buddy-up with another person from their tutor group…more hands make light work!
Each student is expected to earn a different amount of money so minimum pay rates are as follows:
Year 7 – 8 : $6 per hour
Year 9 – 10: $7 per hour
Year 11 – 13: $8 per hour
The pay rates are minimums, as are the hours so I would encourage your son to earn as much as he can. Each house group will also have their earnings added and the top house will earn 300 house points, second 200 pts, third 125 pts and fourth 80 pts.
If you have any concerns about the day, hours or earnings please phone the Deputy Principal, Mr Brendan Biggs at bbiggs@stc.school.nz.
