Year 9 Cricket

Early Season

We had our ups and downs this season with the cricket but mostly everything was positive. We were able to celebrate early in the season with a thrashing against North West cricket club. Our captain Conner Hotton scored an impressive 81 not out. Next up we had Shirley boys high, this was a much different game it was very close and very tense for the boys but a sigh of relief came when Rhys Buckley managed to crunch the winning 4 of the game. The season got harder with a difficult game against St. Bedes but we were able to celebrate an achievement with Ben Wright scoring a very well earned 103 not out. But unfortunately it wasn’t enough to win. There were two more games left in the season with a win and a lose. That’s was it for the first half of the season. We all moved into winter sport where we would meet again in term 4.

Second half of the year

We started training early for the second half of the season which was good for us. It was two day cricket now, so we had to be smart with what we did when batting and bowling . Our first opponents was St. Andrews we all worked very hard in the field and bowled them out for 221. Now it was our turn to bat we had a great opening partner ship with Kole Harmer (42) and Max Smail (71). Unfortunately we just fell short losing by 10 runs but that just meant we had to come back next Saturday and play better. Due to some difficulties STAC defaulted and we got the remanding points.

For the next couple of weeks games were rained off which brought disappointment to all but we still trained hard so we could win. As we did against Boys High Red. After great results in all the games this gave us a spot in the Final against St. Bedes. As we walked into these tough games the boys were pumped to do well for the school. We did amazingly with the ball bowling them all out for 250. When it came to our turn to bat Bedes put on an amazing batting performance bowling us out due to silly mistakes. Although it wasn’t the result that we wanted it was a great season that we all enjoyed.
