Update from St Thomas of Canterbury College

Hamish Barclay —

Kia ora koutou

As we finish up our second week of online learning, we hope things are continuing to go well for your whānau. The engagement from the students has been great during this period of online learning and has shown students’ resilience and adaptability.

As previously mentioned, we understand this can be a difficult time for many and want to continue to support your sons by having consistent learning, as well as avenues for support during these uncertain times. Please make sure if your sons are struggling you make contact with us. He waka eke noa, we’re all in this together!

As we await the government’s decision on levels, it is important that you understand some key communications.

  1. NCEA credits
At this stage, there is a provision for recognition of learning credits (reduced number) like last year, but our students are not eligible for this currently. This means the students still need to gain the original number of credits for each level.

  2. Change to school dates for seniors
Due to NCEA exams being pushed back, the last full day for Years 11-13 at kura will be Thursday 11th November. This allows us to support students in gaining NCEA credits in a supportive environment.

  3. Calendar events
Due to restrictions on gatherings under Levels 2-4, many school events are now facing uncertainty. Where possible, we will endeavor to provide opportunities for these events to take place. Continue to follow our communications and the school calendar for any updates.
