MASE

Students from MASE —

The year started by welcoming 2 new students into MASE Joshua Ross and Deishayn Ulupano who have fitted in well and contributed throughout the year.

We also say goodbye to our only year 13 student Cameron Hancock. Cameron has been valued member in the MASE family and will be leaving a big hole with his leadership and organisation.

Swimming Sports

In term 1 we went to the Halswell pool. It was swimming sports day, I participated in a couple of social events and it was a fun day. We arrived at the pool and set up camp and then did our chants, our house Marlow come last. Then we went in the pool where I come 2nd in an event. In the end Marlow won the swimming sports again.

Athletics Day

STC had its annual athletics day at Nga Puna Wai, the athletics day is a fun mix of competitive and casual track and field events. We start off by having our house chants. With Rice, Marlow, McClintock, and Joyce all teasing each other with friendly insults. These chants give house points to the loudest and best thought-out chants. This year Rice House took out first place, Joyce and McClintock tied for second, and our house; Marlow, coming last.

Singing Competition

This is my first year at STC and first special character week. One of the activity’s was a singing competition where all the house’s go in the hall and have a singing competition. Our house color is yellow and the whole house dressed up in yellow. Our house was the first up to sing, but, unfortunately we were not as good as the other houses and we finished last with Rice house winning. I liked doing it but it would have been better had we performed better on the day.

The Haka Competition

The haka competition is an important event in special character week. It is a true demonstration of passion and emotion. This year’s inter house competition was a great way to cap off special character week. Everyone was in their house colours, but it was hard to tell with all the red chests. Marlow was clearly the best but all the houses were extremely passionate and it was a true show of the St Thomas’s brotherhood.
