STC is looking at giving the boys to participate in a scientific expedition.

Operation Wallacea- Mission Indonesia

We are planning to organise a trip in the July holidyas of 2018 to Indonesia. Groups of sixth form/high school students in their last two years before going on to university or college can join Operation Wallacea(OPWall) expeditions as long as they are accompanied by a teacher.

The school groups are required to collect data for at least part of their expedition which helps with the research objectives and publications for that site. During their two week expeditions the school groups also have the opportunity to work alongside a range of different field scientists and learn about the survey techniques and species encountered. At each of the sites a lecture series is run to provide background information about the habitats and species, which are tied into many of the concepts learned in pre-university biology, geography and environmental science courses.

Final cost is dependant upon flights but would be in the region of $2700-$3000 NZD per student. The bulk of which we could fundraise for.

There is an information evening for interested current year 11 and 12 students and their parents. This will take place on Wednesday 29th March at 7.30 in Mount Sion

Professor Max Bodmer will talk about the work the boys would undertake and the Operation wallacea program.

There is no commitment at this stage but interested boys and parents can recieve futher information

from school the following week. Junior students are welcome to attend the entertaining lecture but can not go on the trio due to age restrictions
