Drama Report

Angela Smith —

There’s a lot of talent coming through at STC, so I can’t wait to see what the future holds.

2016 - "What a drama!"

2016 has been a very busy year for the Drama department, with growing numbers in classes and a great deal of involvement in extra-curricular performances.

First up was the hugely successful run of Grease, with sold out performances every night. The annual collaboration between Villa and STC continues to expand, with energetic and large casts, and equally energetic and large audiences.

This year’s combined Year 12 and 13 class had their pick of performances; either a reprise of Bernard Beckett’s ‘Blame’ or an (edited for all male class) abstract retelling of David Campton’s ‘The Cagebirds’. Year 11’s also got to choose from ‘Singer’, that deals with whether you can morally justify sacrificing 1 person to save thousands, and ‘Detention’, which talks about how reality is not shown by appearance.

Year 10’s also got the chance to perform in public for an invited audience, with them having 3 shows to choose from. This year’s Year 7’s definitely enjoyed hamming it up in dresses, or wiggling about for a lipsync challenge.

There’s a lot of talent coming through at STC, so I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
