Rowing Open Day

Robbie Lange —

Rowing

Rowing is a sport that encourages discipline, hard work and resilience. It is a great way to work on strength and conditioning and is a lot of fun. Camps and regattas around the country, a camaraderie like no other sport and the opportunity to test abilities against the top athletes in New Zealand make rowing a unique sport to be a part of.

Past rowers at the college include current New Zealand rower Nathan Flannery, current coaches include ex New Zealand coach Pat McQuinn and current Canterbury Women's coach Daniel Ryan assisted by a number of old boys of the college.

"I've never felt a sense of brotherhood like I do with the rowing squad" - Tobi Sunter (current rower)

"Rowing changed my attitude toward hard work. I love it and I love the opportunity to race against top schools regularly" - Ben Scarlett (current rower)

"There's only one thing greater than competing at Maadi Cup, and that's the connection of the rowing squad" - Josh Kelly (current rower)

Saturday 9th September at 10am is an opportunity to give rowing a go. If you have ever been interested in trying this sport, come along to the Lower Selwyn Huts for a day of fun on the water. There will be some exhibition races from current rowers as well as a chance for new students and parents to jump in a boat and give it a go. Following that, on Tuesday 12th September at 6pm there will be an information evening for parents to find out more.
