Comedian and St Thomas Old Boy, David Correos, is the latest to receive New Zealand’s prestigious comedy award - the Billy T Award.

He joins the likes of Rhys Darby, Paul Ego and Dai Henwood as recipients of the award, which recognises and encourages local comedy talent.

David was awarded the title at the New Zealand Comedy Festival's Last Laughs in Auckland. He will take home a $4,000 cash grant from the New Zealand Comedy Trust, as well as the prestigious "Yellow Towel" (made famous by Billy T James,) and a spot on TV3's 7 Days programme.

The 23-year-old, former debt collector, describes his style as "humorous performance art", He had the audiences in stitches with his 2016 show ‘Second Place Winner’. He credits his comedy career to Christchurch - “Everything I do comes from growing up in Christchurch. During the cold winter nights, you can’t go out, so you just stay home and write weird stuff. It is amazing for creativity.”
