Kapahaka 2016

Our Young Maori men and kapahaka.

Kapahaka

The boys have represented the school with pride. We have built from a small group from the start of the year to a solid unit of 25 boys who are willing to hone their skills and develop as strong young Maori men. We have set ourselves some goals that will keep us focused. One of these is for St Thomas to participate in large numbers at the national competition.

We have had a trying year without a consistent tutor and preparing to soldier on with the support of Whanau and with a lot student commitment. The boys continue to impress me with their standard of general behaviour, the pride they show in their uniform and this is something we are working on to lift the standards and the expectations we have on the boys. We are not afraid to let them know if they are not meeting the standard. The boys were adaptive in their approach to new instruction and a new direction.

The students themselves have stepped up and are pushing each other to be better performers. This has been lead from senior boys especially Kalani Halliday and Ash Reihana and we continue to open our doors to new members.
