McClintock House Dean's Report 2016

Brendan Biggs —

House Dean's Report

The winds of change swept through McClintock house this year. After a hugely successful 2015, in which McClintock house took out the Thomas Ruane Challenge Cup and dominated most aspects of inter house under the guidance of Paul Burton it was time for new leadership. This was to come in the form of Andrew Strachan and the dedicated Xavier Ngaata.

Leading on for the success of last year we were all keen to go for back to back domination and start a legacy similar to the mighty and all conquering All Blacks. It was one of the All Blacks mantras; that of “Better people make better All Blacks which I believe can be applied to the McClintock student leaders this year.

In terms of leadership you could not ask for a better person than Xavier to lead the house. He and his deputies, Rueben, Luke, Robbie, Fergus, Joe and year 12 students Leon and Tobias all played a big part of creating a great house spirit and participation which contributed to our success.

Our success began right from the start of the year with first in Athletics and second in the Swimming sports. As a house we had huge numbers of participants and some great results, led by “Mr Perfect” Luke Payne. This success and huge participation continued on the swimming sports at Halswell Pool. Once again the boys posted big numbers, got impressive results and delivered many rousing Vipers chants and songs.

The next big house activity was St Thomas Day. This was a chance to really show the rest of the school what McClintock house was really about. A huge thank you must go out the student leadership team for the hard work in producing our impressive winning song combination. This was a well put together and catchy combination of; Party in the USA and Seven years old. Once again it was a stirring Haka led by Xavier and passionately supported by Robbie Pugh that enabled the house to have a strong result.

Overall it was a successful and enjoyable year for McClintock house. One in which we dominated not only the school events but also many Bruce challenges. We say Goodbye to the year 13 of 2016 and eagerly await to see the type of leadership style Tobias Sunter and his year 13 crew will bring to the table.

Hard work, determination, vipe what? Vipers!!
