GREASE

Michelle Tull —

The combined St Thomas of Canterbury College and Villa Maria College production of the musical Grease has been a huge hit with audiences this week.

We have received lovely comments from people who have attended the show during the four sold out nights.

“Congratulations to Ms Smith, the students and helpers on their production of Grease.  The smiles, energy and enthusiasm were so evident on their first night which I enjoyed tremendously.  Through song, dance and costume, a wonderful transportation to a time before they were born but which many of the audience could identify with completely!  A credit to all those involved.  Well done everyone”.

Message from Mrs O'Neil - Principal

We were treated to an evening of high energy, infectious fun, irreverent 1950s humour and top quality dancing and singing. It was a delight to see so many of our boys involved and participating and doing some brilliant moves!

Congratulations to all our boys on stage, in the band, backstage and lighting and sound technicians, and particularly to the leads Te Aotahi Rice-Edwards, Strathern Harrison, Patrick Hansen, Ben O'Connell, Robbie Pugh and George Gibbs who carried off their roles as the T Birds in style. Also congratulations go to Tim Marshall for his very popular cameo as Disc Jockey Vince Fontaine. A big thanks too, go out to old boy Sam Hanning for his entertaining set piece as Teen Angel!

The Greased Lightning scene with all our boys on stage was a real favourite and show stealer.

The Villa girls as well gave excellent performances with high energy and well choreographed dancing and some beautiful singing voices. Sandy and the Pink Ladies, in particular, carried their roles brilliantly.

Of course, none of this happens without a very significant input from staff led by Angela Smith. I know Angela has committed many evening, weekend and holiday hours to making the musical happen and for it to be of a high standard. She should be rightly proud of what she has achieved along with other staff and parent support. Our head of music Andrew Murphy coordinated the band which included teacher Brian Knopp and a number of staff and parents helped backstage and front of house.
