RIMG Form Class 2019

Maureen Gaffaney —

RIMG 2019

This year four new students arrived to join the RIMG whanau – Tyler Cogle arrived from Coromandel, Angus O’Connell from Prebbleton, Lachie Friel from Leeston and Tito Ripley from Australia.

During the year, there have been many deep discussions at Monday circle time, pizza lunches and full involvement in school activities – especially Special Character Week.

Highlights:

Lachie Friel had the amazing experience of travelling to California and really enjoyed Disneyland and Universal Studios. Tito Ripley was the quietest member of the class and said he enjoyed the bowls on Activities Day in November. Nicholas Harris’ highlights were all around sport – gym and basketball.

Noah Parsons has had a quiet year but is a busy sportsman in football. Angus O’Connell is progressing well academically and is busy with tennis despite spending the last days of the year in a moonboot after a foot injury.

Tayler Mutton is always up to date on current affairs and has had a good year, culminating in two Design awards at Prizegiving. His highlight was Special Character Week which he described as “very cool and epic.” Lachlan Reid – a man of few words – most enjoyed the Fair. Jake Hayward has continued his involvement in sport and Tyler Cogle says STC is the best school he has been to. Tyler is busy with his ATC commitments.

Matthew Peoples has had a good year in Level One with Excellence credits dominating his results and is very involved in the Scouting movement. Jack Cunniffe enjoyed his experiences on the China trip and showed leadership when he organised and delivered the bacon breakfast that was a real success. We were all delighted when he was selected as a member of the Student Leadership team. We know he will do a great job.

We are farewelling our two Year 13 students. We haven’t seen much of Mitchel Ancit who has been a part-time student as he was completing an ARA course. His other major commitment was his part-time work for Foodstuffs. Reegan Laidlaw has continued with his trampolining commitments having two overseas World Cup competitions this year – in Valladolid, Spain where he placed 16th in the Men’s Synchro and Khabarovsk, Russia where he competed in the Men’s Individual. These were his first open competitions competing in Senior Open men against those qualifying for the 2020 Olympics with a view to preparing him for qualification for the 2024 Olympics. This is a huge testament to Reegan’s dedication to his sport which involves 18 hours training a week. Here’s hoping we see him at the Olympics in 5 years’ time!

We wish both Mitchel and Reegan all the best as they leave us to start the next chapter of their lives.

Next year we will all gather again and look forward to meeting new class members and a new year.
