Cricket - First XI - Coach's Report

Coach’s Report

2016 was a year that held much promise for STCC 1st XI. We had group of boys who possessed exciting ability with bat and ball as well as an achievable goal of reaching the top 1st XI grade.

In the end perhaps our overall youth and inexperience in big game situations let us down throughout the season as we ended up with fairly mixed results. We ended up winning just under half our games for the year with the most notable performance being against CBHS 3rd XI Black. We won that game by 9 wickets after chasing 108 for victory in the final innings. There were so many ‘what could have been’s’ during the season where we weren’t quite able to get over the line and these games are the ones that we really need to start converting if we are serious about moving to the next level.

Joe Henderson in his final year of school was both top wicket taker and top run scorer for the team, while Lachie Stove was also a close second in both categories also. While we lose two year 13’s this year, next year our team will be made up by more than half of year 12’s and 13’s who are full of enthusiasm, energy and the love of the game. It’s an exciting time to be a part of STCC cricket as there are a lot of junior boys coming through now who are passionate about cricket. This bodes well for the future of the cricket programme here at the school.
