Preparing for what would have been the biggest Polyfest to date, following the announcement that the event would take place at Hagley Park for the first time ever, built excitement and a buzz around the local Pasifika community.

Unfortunately as a result of mandates and restrictions, this year’s annual Polyfest event was cancelled. Over 60 of our young men initially signed up but with isolations creating havoc, numbers dropped to around 30 performers. The performers endured a restricted environment which included wearing masks at all practices, social distancing and no singing. A filmed performance was the only way for our young men to connect with our STC community.

I would like to acknowledge the tutors for coming up with a set albeit the restrictions that were put in place. A massive mihi to the performers and parents for your commitment and support through this process.

We look forward to the 2023 Polyfest and the connections it creates for our Pasifika Aiga.
