Peace and Solidarity

Stephen Kennedy —

This week we have seen the emotional resilience of our people tested.

In March we have been transformed. To be honest, I’ve found the last few days to be tougher than the quakes were… the quakes were natural accidents…. explainable and almost understandable.

This week we have seen the emotional resilience of our people tested.

I didn’t let my own sons see the news, or go online and ‘scroll down’ through hateful comments.

I myself have focused on supporting people. Here’s some positive online stuff to see.

First, here is the text to the liturgy we held as a school community on Monday morning. I hope the words help you find peace.

Second, here is a website that shares information about Hussein Al Umari who died in his mosque. He attended STC from 1998 -2001. https://www.thenational.ae/world/oceania/uae-born-hussein-al-umari-killed-running-towards-the-attacker-to-protect-worshippers-1.838112?fbclid=IwAR0WmGxUVbRIkkK83XPs5tDaZKqYgz_iyq-fl1NHADKhcyT1fDO7aQ7rZNI

Finally, here is a link to youtube for the minute silence and school’s haka. We shared this moment with Our Lady of Victories school.

There will be other links in this newsletter for advice and help.

Please pray for our city.

Lord make me an instrument of your peace

Where there is hatred let me sow love

Where there is injury, pardon

Where there is doubt, faith

Where there is despair, hope

Where there is darkness, light

And where there is sadness, joy O divine master grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console to be understood as to understand To be loved as to love

For it is in giving that we receive it is in pardoning that we are pardoned

And it's in dying that we are born to eternal life

Amen

Yours in Christ
