Holiday Workshops at Ara

Andrew Jones —

Ecobots

Design and build robots that can navigate, detect and collect samples in a dangerous environment.

Your robot must cross crevasses, collect penguin eggs and move solar panels to build a sustainable energy system for an Antarctic base. Along the way you’ll study principles of power engineering and sustainability. The robots are judged by external experts. This workshop showcases applied learning, by introducing you to the Engineering Design Cycle through mechatronics and code, and provides a great insight into study in the fields of ICT, electrical or mechanical engineering, applied science and primary industries.

This offering is designed for year 9 and 10 students.

Mission to Antarctica

Supported by the Antarctic Office and Fablab, this holiday workshop brings to life the Antarctic strategy for mankind to explore and protect Antarctica.

You’ll use physics, technology, engineering and CAD to build habitats that can withstand extreme environments. You’ll learn about Antarctic marine life and animals, and meet expert engineers and scientists in the field of Antarctic studies, telecommunications, geology and biology.

This offering is designed for year 9, 10 and 11 students.
