Year 7-10 Pastoral Care
Online Behaviour and Social Media
Dear Parents and Caregivers,
As we head into the last couple of weeks of the school year it is important to remind our young men of the expectations of cell phones and responsible online behaviour. The 21st century poses many new challenges and issues in the education system, none being more prevalent than technology, the rise of cell phone usage and social media. It has given everyone great new experiences and platforms to showcase their lives and communicate but also poses huge amounts of risk associated when not used properly. Again, monitoring your son’s devices, reinforcement of these messages at home and promoting heathy positive online behaviour is much appreciated. Our staff are always continuing to promote and teach positive online skills and behaviours, which ultimately link to our school values of Manawa, Compassion, Brotherhood and Legacy.
Our pastoral care system is one of a restorative nature and dealing with conflict in a restorative justice process aligns greatly with our Catholic values and special character. Our staff and, in particular, our deans embrace this restorative culture, and it is the basis for our positive relationships between students and staff.
Term 4 poses opportunity for our junior students with education outside the classroom, which is a great platform for building connection, relationships, and leaderships. A friendly reminder that mobile phones are not to be used while at school and kept in your son’s bag throughout the day. This, along with our restorative care and big push around promoting and teaching good online behaviour, play a significant role in developing our young men.
