Southwest - Kāhui Tonga-Mā-Uru Hub Interschool Speech Competition

The Southwest Kahui Ako Speech finals took place at Our Lady of Victories School -  Thursday 26th November.

Six of the seven schools that competed were Our Lady of Victories, St Bernadette's, Our Lady of the Assumption, St Peter's, Villa Maria, and St Thomas'.

A range of topics were covered from tsunamis and earthquakes, to favourite sports teams, like Manchester United. The judges consisted of three senior girls from Villa Maria College and our two Year 10 St Thomas boys, Keegan Verster and Samuel Amaris.

The competitors from St Thomas' were Charlie Pratt, Year 7 and Lachlan Pikia, Year 8. Both boys did well and each received a placing of third.

The event proved successful and students were able to witness firsthand the positive techniques of speech making and what to avoid. We are looking forward to next year's event.
