My Camp Reflection

By Euan Agomaa - Year 9

As I sit here on the last day of camp, I cannot help but reflect on the incredible experiences I had. From hiking up bridal walk to doing the water-based activities, every moment was filled with adventure and excitement. However, one aspect of camp that stood out to me the most was the experience of sleeping in a shelter every night.

At first, I was hesitant about the idea of sleeping outside in a shelter. I had never done anything like it before, and I was worried about being uncomfortable and cold. However, as the first night approached, I found myself getting more and more excited about the prospect of sleeping under the stars.

As it turns out, sleeping in a shelter was one of the highlights of my camp experience. The shelters themselves were basic, made of simple wooden logs and covered with a tarp, but they were surprisingly cosy and comfortable. I loved the feeling of being outside and hearing the sounds of nature around me as I drifted off to sleep. There was something amazing about being able to talk to my friends beside me, and I found myself staring up at the sky for long moments before finally closing my eyes.

Of course, sleeping in a shelter was not without its challenges. The first few nights were a bit rough as I adjusted to the unfamiliar sleeping arrangements. I had to get used to the sounds of other campers rustling around next to me and the occasional sounds of rustling trees overhead. However, as the days went on, I found myself getting more and more used to the rhythms of camp life, and I began to fully embrace the experience of sleeping in a shelter.

Perhaps one of the best things about camp was all the activities like coasteering, the ABL games, kayaking and raft building that were involved in the camp, it connected new people and bonded our relationships more. My brothers that I went to camp with made it a core memory I will remember. There were times when we would stay up late into the night, sharing stories and laughing together under the stars.

I found myself feeling incredibly grateful for the experience of sleeping in a shelter during my time at camp, walking up a hill and experiencing the outdoors. It allowed me to disconnect from the busyness of everyday life and reconnect with nature and the people around me. As I packed up my stuff, I know that the memory of those shelter nights activities will stay with me for a long time to come.
