Middle School - Years 7-10

Kiā ora e te Whānau

What an awesome start to the year it has been with plenty of chances to whakawhanaungatanga/connect. As a kura we place huge importance in building relationships by 'Connect before content'. The many events we run are aimed at building strong relationships between peers, teachers and whānau. From our mihi whakatau to mentoring interviews and events such as camp and The Calling provide opportunities to foster an environment where boys can thrive.

Over the last few weeks, we have started our testing program to get a gauge of where boys are at and how we can best approach learning for your sons. Information will be uploaded to Edge but you can also contact your son's teachers to discuss if needed.

Walking around classes I have seen engaged students who have been working really well at setting up good routines to manage their own learning. You can support your sons by looking at Edge and having discussions with regard to their Attitude to Learning reports. Also, your son's work is all accessed via Microsoft Teams and they will be able to show you tasks and assignments that they are currently working on.

This year we also have two programmes to support literacy and numeracy needs in the junior school.

In Years 9 and 10 we have https://www.writethatessay.org/ which provides boys with tasks to become better writers which include daily challenges.

Our Year 7-10 also have access to https://login.mathletics.com/ and can work through tasks to support their numeracy progression.

I look forward to the rest of the term and the learning and achievements both in and out of class.
