Swimming Sports - 2023

Marlow - winners

Swimming sports was a great day to introduce the new boys into the culture and to invite the men to get involved. I would like to personally thank my Year 13 Marlow cohort for coming together as brothers. The example set by the year 13s was exceptional. I would like to specifically thank Johnny McArdle for his efforts on the day.

Thank you Marlow for starting this year off with a bang. Well done to the other three Kiatiaki for the excellent day and getting the students involved. Marlow Kings We Shall Remain.

Joyce Report

Joyce house started the day off with a bang getting an easy win in the chants showing everyone how it should be done. Then carried this on into the swimming with many members making finals for they’re age groups.

Into the relays Joyce put on a show taking out the year 8 and open relay by a full length. Overall it was a great performance from the house and there were many great moments of fun. A big thank you to all the year 13s for helping me organise and control everything throughout the day.

Joyce has had a great start to the year. Swimming sports was a highlight, with the boys in red rising to victory in the house chant competition. We finished second overall in the pool. Jackson Bunting as kaitiaki really modelled the value of brotherhood, by encouraging the boys to participate and leading the house chants with pride. Charlie Prusas deserves a special mention, for his outstanding performance in the pool.

McClintock Report

2023 swimming sports for McClintock was not the best of results as we came last, but it was a major win in having everyone connect and get out of their comfort zones in every age group from year 7 all the way to year 13. We were able to have good results in most of the relays where our teamwork and support from everyone came out and overall, it was a great day to get to know everyone and create new connections.

I want to thank every single year 13 in McClintock as they all made an effort to help me and the rest of the house in whatever they needed and also thank you to year 11 Mana Martin for helping lead the chants at the start.

Rice Comments

Monday’s swimming sports was huge day for the mighty Rice House and a great success for the brothers in black. Even though we got 3rd we should all be so proud and ready to get up for athletics. A personal thanks to all the boys who jumped in the pool and made the day as great as it was for me and the other year 13’s.

Another huge thanks to all my rice mentor teachers and dean Mrs Heather you are greatly appreciated. And once again to Mr Smail and all the teachers who organised the event thank you. Marlow Joyce and McClintock bring it on for athletics!!

Being led by Year 13's who are invested has meant that RICE has started the year engaged and proud. Our chant was clear cut & rehearsals had the house feeling like we were in a good space moving into swimming sports, our first competition for 2023.

On the day we stood as one, united. And while, we didn't take out the first spot I am proud of how the Year 13's have combined to lead together, and the response from ALL other students has been to follow with PRIDE.

Final result:

Marlow - 465

Joyce - 345

Rice - 300

McClintock - 252
