π day at St. Thomas by Explorer Endeavour

Pi Day

On March 14th, the STC mathematics department celebrated the national Pi (often represented by the lower-case Greek letter π=3.141592…) day. Pi is one of the most well-known mathematical constants and is the ratio of a circle’s circumference to its diameter. For any circle, the distance around the edge is a little more than three times the distance across.

During lunch time, the STC boys and staff joined the pi reciting competition in the stem building.

In the afternoon, the special guest, Mr. Hay, CEO of Etco came to our school and did an inspirational speech to the Year 10 students about how important it is to take maths courses during their high school years.

The ROBAM Company donated $200 dollars to the mathematics team to support the pi-day.
