Sports Update

Kia ora Koutou,

We are well in to the school year now and a large number of our akonga have already pulled on a singlet, jersey or vest with the STC logo on it. As summer tournament comes to an end we have seen and witnessed some phenomenal results. However it is not the result that matters, it is the journey our young men have been on. Over the past six months and more, there have been many young men working hard early in the morning or long into the night. In doing so they are learning commitment, to work through adversity and, most important of all, they are forming friendships and relationships that connect them and grow their wellbeing. I would like to acknowledge some people;

Our cricket coaches. Cricket is in a great space at STC. Led by David Hooper, and with excellent support from the cricket committee, the 23/24 season has been a huge success with many new experiences for our cricketers. We look forward to 2024/25 and what it will bring.

Rowing have had a fantastic week at Maadi Cup. Dan Ryan (Master of Rowing) and Paddy Dowling (Head Coach), along with a number of other coaches, have worked so very hard this season to allow our boys to be at their best for the national rowing champs. The rowing committee have also been hugely committed to allow our boys to have access to excellent equipment and opportunity - we thank them so much for all they do for this sport.

Touch – led by our amazing coach, Steph Broomhall, who has given so much of her time to help grow the sport of touch. The boys showed huge Manawa to reach quarter finals at the South Island championships. They were placed in an extremely tough pool and competed admirably throughout this tournament.

Volleyball – another of our emerging sports. They have had a fantastic term of tournaments and events and have been extremely well led by their coaches and Johnny Leo’o. The team have looked sharp in their new gear and will look to build their numbers even more in Term 4!

Futsal – Both futsal and football are growing year on year at STC. Blair Scadden does a great job of organising and coaching, and we thank him and his coaches who are currently in Wellington competing at the national championships.

3x3 basketball has qualified and had a great result at the southern qualifiers, winning the tournament. It was also great to see the community come out to support the annual Brad Milne cup last week.

As always, keep up to date with our sport on our sport Facebook page; https://www.facebook.com/stccsport and https://www.sporty.co.nz/STC/all-sports
