Year 5 Millenium Waterwise trip

Karyn Barnes-Pownall —

On Wednesday 30 October the Year 5's travelled to the Millenium Centre in preparation for participating in the Waterwise programme next year.

After getting changed into our swimming clothes we stepped into the water-filled Millenium Centre. Shivering slightly we put on our air-filled life jackets and entered the raft that was floating in the pool. We were taught to do a scuba dive exit and we flipped backward pretending the water was the real sea.

First, we practiced getting back inside the raft and then we formed a protective huddle in the water with each other. Geethishi and Issie were in the middle, acting like the sick and injured people, while Lan Anh, Aria, Poppy SB, Georgie and Sofia were on the outside layer, protecting them and keeping them warm. This is what we would do it if something happened in the real sea.

“Waterwise at the Millenium was fun and made me feel that bit more safe in the water” Geethishi

“My group was watching me, I first up in the group. The kayak was flipping slowly and my heart was racing” Aria

“The Millenium trip was very fun and I enjoyed water safety” Lan Anh
